The three day teacher training program INSPIRE organised by the Heartfulness Education Trust in collaboration with Human Resource Development Department, Government of Sikkim From 8th to 10th March, 2018 at Heartfulness Centre, Gangtok concluded successfully.
65 participants attended the training program from 47 schools- government and private. The program dealt with various topics such as different methods of teaching, leadership skills, communication skills, imparting value education to the students through the lesson plans designed by the global Heartfulness team, heart centred approach to education etc. The significance of ‘learning to know’, ‘learning to do’, ‘learning to live together’ and ‘learning to be’ as advocated by the International Commission on Education for the 21stcentury was discussed through various activity based interactive sessions.
The program was found to be enriching and informative by the participants. Shri Tashi Wangd i Bhutia, Head Master of Melli Aching Senior Secondary expressed such a training should be conducted on a regular basis to help benefit more teachers. Ms Archana Gurung, Principal Jorethang Senior Secondary School said the training aided in enhancing the teaching skills and helped in understanding how teachers can be facilitators towards imparting values than merely be transmitters of knowledge.
Shri G P Upadhyay, Additional Chief Secretary, Human Resource Development Department, Government of Sikkim graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Narrating an experience, he shared how important it is to teach with heart and feel for the children while teaching. He thanked the resource persons for their contribution and the HeartfulnessInstitute for organising such a program. Shri Ravindra Telang, Commissioner cum Secretary to the Governor, Government of Sikkim attended the program. He shared how one remembers the teachers who imparts education with love and connects to the students compared to others. He added the program helps in handling complex tasks with simplicity and helps teachers in handling the challenges of the 21st century. Smt IndiraJoshi, Former Additional Director, State Council of Educational Research and Training attended the program and shared that all the teachers of Sikkim should attend such a program as it would help in build a society based on values.She thanked the Heartfulness team for organising the training program.
