Under the supervision of SDM Jorethang Mr. Bimal. C Rai, the mock drill exercise was held with an objective of planning, co-ordination and monitoring disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness and management in case of dam water flood devastation that triggers disasters of various kinds. The exercise was held across various points across Jorethang including DANS Barrage site, Akar bridge quarry, riverside area and Jorethang CHC. The entire operation was conducted under the guidelines of Incident Response Mechanism (IRS) which organises a coordinated response mechanism at all levels of administration, reducing avoidable loss of life and suffering of the people during disasters.
The mock drill exercise saw the Quick Response team (QRT) provide rendered assistance in order to evacuate and rescue the injured from sensitive and vulnerable zones in order to help reduce chaos and confusion during actual incident management. Real disaster like situations of drowning and water engulfment were also established for which action plan and mitigation methods were carried out in real time.
Later, a briefing session was held at the conference hall of Green Park where officials from concerned departments underlined the imperativeness of such drills at regular intervals to avert and minimise casualties in the future. Feedbacks such as effective communication, availability of rescue equipments, training of security personnel, briefing of the swimmers and so on were brought forth in the discussion. The officials also lauded the swift service delivery of all the stakeholders, participants and observers of SSDMA during the mock drill exercise which was all responsible to make the exercise successful and productive.
