The Dept. of Education organized a Two Days National Seminar on ‘Emerging Trends and Innovations in Teacher Education’. The inaugural session of the programme was held at Cauveri Hall of the University on 22nd March 2018. Dr. T.J. M.S. Raju, Head of Dept. of Education welcomed the Chief Guest Shri G.P. Upadhyay, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Sikkim, Vice- Chancellor Prof. Jyoti Prakash Tamang, Registrar Sh. T.K. Kaul, Prof. K. Puspanadham, Head of Department of Educational Administration, MS University, Baroda, Prof. P.K. Gupta, former Dean of School of Education, North Eastern Hill University, faculty members, staff, students and the participants from different colleges and Universities.
The inaugural session of the programme was chaired by the Vice- Chancellor Prof. Jyoti Prakash Tamang. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. K. Puspanadham, in which he stressed on the importance of realizing that teaching is not a job but a responsibility to shape the future of our nation and the society at large.
The Chief Guest Shri G.P. Upadhyay spoke on the importance of teacher education and also stressed on the significance of keeping both the teachers and the students motivated at all times. He also mentioned that the main aim of achieving quality education can be realized with constant efforts and encouraging the bright minds to join the profession of teaching.
Prof. Tamang mentioned the importance of keeping oneself updated at all times and the fact that learning is a continuous process. He also emphasized on developing a holistic personality of an individual by giving equal importance to ethical education and co- curricular activities. He congratulated the Dept. of Education on organizing the programme and extended a warm welcome to the participants to the University. (PIB)
