Sikkim Express:
GANGTOK, November 21: State Health department today announced a series of activities that will be conducted under State Action Plan for drug demand reduction.
As part of the program, a children’s parliament will be organised at Manan Kendra on November 26, a football tournament between the inmates of various rehab centres from November 28 to December 3 and an awareness campaign at MG Marg on November 30. Besides, cultural programmes will also be organised.
“We have three fundamental components of this program – awareness, preventive measures and capacity building. We are going to involve human minds through creative interests like sports, music, and art. We are all running away from the problem till now, it is high time we face and embrace it”, said Health minister Dr. M.K. Sharma today.
Addressing the press conference, Dr. Sharma also stressed on sensitizing people about the menace of drugs. NGOs and social activists are working diligently but due to lack of awareness we are not getting the desired results, he added.
“The productive youth of our State are into drugs and this has become a major issue. Let’s all come together and make people aware of it,” he concluded.
