Geyzing, October 23: Five persons from 24 Parganas of West Bengal were killed while three were critically injured after a tourist vehicle fell into the gorge at tinjerbung near Reshi Bazar in west Sikkim.
The incident took place on the night of 22 October when the vehicle skidded off the road and plunged down into the gorge killing five persons on the spot. It was informed that vehicle was heading towards Kaluk from Namchi. All the tourists were from Nutan Pally, 24 Parganas of West Bengal.
Among the victims who lost their lives in the road mishap were Bibas Pathak (42 years), Lily Pathak (52 years), Asha Lata Pathak (61 years), Brajendranath Pathak 71 years) and Niharendu Biswas (41 years). The driver of the vehicle Ashim Rai, Tusharkant Pathak and Pratap Biswas who are critically injured in the accident have been reffered to a hospital in Siliguri from Namchi Hospital. The
necessary post mortem procedure was completed at district hospital, Geyzing on Tuesday.
A team comprised of RTO (Geyzing) Sonam Wangchen Bhutia, members of Pelling Tourism Development Society and the police department had conducted the joint rescue operation. The rescue team has handed over the bodies of the victims to the relatives.
