Mohit Chauhan, the popular Bollywood Singer, who came to Sikkim to perform in the final day of the Red Panda Winter Carnival 2018 with his band team, The Silk Route, has prolonged his stay in the state and has been visiting different areas

around the state with his better- half, Prarthna.

HIs love for the hills and this state is clearly reflected In this series of visits which came as a surprise to the Muringla Villa Homestay at Linchom, West Sikkim. It was surprising in many ways as the small program gave us an opportunity to know more about the singer, his interests and his love for the culture.

It was less a stage, as its simplicity spoke with antique lights, reused furnitures and a warm fireplace in the middle. You might fantasize, 'What a musical night it would have been?'. But the evening went on to be more fantasizing as folklores, folk songs, folk music found their way to entertain.

Mohit and Prarthna, started with two beautiful folklores from the book 'Curious Tales of the Himalayas'. one being Buddhist folklore while the other hailing from Nepal. Their story just set the environment for many more lores to follow from the mass gathered there.

Following the stories, came music and songs. Instruments like Machunga and Binayo grabbed his attention which he acknowledged with a Himachal folk song. 'Guncha Koi Mere Naam Kardiya', in his voice was enough to give goosebumps to the mass.

Mohit's love for the hills, its culture, folk traditions urges us to think about the importance of the slowly diminishing culture and traditions by the influence of new adoptions. We need to keep our cultural instincts alive while adopting the new changes.

His visit to Sikkim and his love for the state also gives us a food for thought: A celebrity of such stature, giving his time to this state. His association with the state would surely benefit the state, its tourism, etc. As messages, songs, stories, etc., the tales of his time in Sikkim would spread encouraging the world to see SIkkim as a tourism and cultural destination.
