A tragic incident took place at around 1:30 p.m. in the National Highway-10 at Majhitar, Rangpo. An oil tanker numbered WB-73 B 7168, loaded with diesel rolled over the road and the enitre NH was filled with oil all around. But what made this accident a deadly and tragic one, is the death of a lady over which the tanker toppled over.
The tanker is said to have suddenly disbalanced which caused the mishap. It is being said that the lady had got down from a Taxi vehicle and waiting to cross the road when the tanker suddenly rolled over.
The Rangpo Fire, Traffic Police, Rangpo Police, Armed Forces from Baradang, Singtam Fire Station along with the normal public supported to move the tanker, control the traffic, etc. On moving the tanker, the condition of the body is not something to be described.
The deceased was recognized to hail from Adarsh Gaon, South Sikkim named Phurba Doma Lepcha. The Rangpo Police under their custody sent the body to Singtam District Hospital for post mortem. The National Highway remained shut for sometime due to the incident.
