One Dead, One Injured after being struck by a vehicle near Zero Point, Gangtok.
One person has died and another person suffered injuries after they were hit by aai (23) R/O Lok Dara, Rongli, A/P Arithang, Gangtok is presently undergoing medical treatment at STNM Hospital.

The deceased was identified as Birendra Kumar Panigrahi (52), R/O of Palia, Orissa, A/P Baluakhani, Gangtok, who was working under the capacity Head of HR at BSNL, Gangtok. The injured victim who was identified as Samuel R
As per the eye witnesses, the victims were struck by Silver Coloured TATA Sumo bearing registration No. SK01J2586, who were walking along the footpath. The vehicle was reportedly coming towards Gangtok from Vajra area, was completely on the wrong lane and was in an excessive speed.
The alleged driver identified as Rajesh Rai (47), R/O Darjeeling, West Bengal, A/P Bojoghari, Gangtok has been arrested by Sadar Police and a case under section 279/338/304A of IPC, r/w section 177/184 CMV Act, 1988 registered against him.
