Namchi: 20th September
2017: The incessant rainfall that started from yesterday evening has resulted
in damage of property, loss of lives and road blockages in South District. On
the midnight of September 20 around 2.00 am a landslide took place at Upper
Gurpisey, Namchi due to which one house at Upper Ghurpisey collapsed
completely. During this fateful incident three persons were buried in the
debris and were found dead by the rescue team, while two injured in the same
incident were sent to District Hospital Namchi. SDM Bimal Rai and police team
from Namchi Police Station reached the spot for necessary action. The three
dead persons are, Nikhil Rai 11 years, Nikita Rai 15 years and Passangkit
Bhutia 21 years. The two injured persons are
Bishnu Rai and Ram Kumari
Pradhan.
Similarly, in the second
incident that took place around 3 am at Upper Bokrong ward under Kateng Namphok
Gram Panchayat Unit one house collapsed completely, as per the report the house
belonged to Rajkumar Tamang of Upper Bokrong ward.This incident resulted in the
death two persons namelt Manju and her daughter Angel, both of whom were found
dead.
While, in the third
incident a house of Purna Hang Subba of Ramaram Khorlong, South Sikkim has been
damaged and washed away by flash flood today morning. One minor child Rohit
Hang Subba aged 14 years was reportedly declared dead.
