Sikkim CM Sh Pawan Chamling writes to Union Home Minister Sh Rajnath Singh over Gorkhaland and attachment of Sikkim with Darjeeling Hill people

It is a well-known fact that I have been an ardent supporter of the Gorkhaland movement. Right from the time of assuming office as the Chief Minister, I have raised the issue of formation of a separate state of Gorkhaland at the National level several times. In 2011, we passed a resolution in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly and sent it to the Government of India seeking a permanent solution on the matter. Through the SDF Party also, we have always maintained this stand and made our voices heard in various political forums within and outside Sikkim. Besides, in my personal capacity, I have strongly advocated the long standing demand of the people of the Darjeeling Hills at all times and spoken about it in different social, cultural, literary meetings, conferences and conventions that I have attended in the Country and abroad.

We all are aware that Sikkim and Darjeeling share a very close bond with similarities of language, culture, tradition, caste, food habits etc. As immediate neighbor, we Sikkimese, wish them well forever; and pray that their hopes and aspirations are fulfilled. We have always been there for the people of Darjeeling Hills in times of need and we reiterate that they have our all-out support for the demand of separate state of Gorkhaland. Our good wishes and prayers are with them.
