"Saving River Teesta" "UNESCO World Heritage site "Khangchendzonga National Park"

The Sikkim Tribune
Gangtok, June 14: A Members of Sikkim University Student's Association (SUSA) took out a rally today, opposing the construction of a dam power project at the Teesta River in Lower Dzongu in North Sikkim.
Teesta and Rangeet rivers are an integral part of Sikkim’s history, culture and tradition. The proposed construction of a Teesta Stage IV NHPC project at Lower Dzongu belt in north district of the river Teesta, which falls under the buffer zone of the Khangchendzonga National Park (KNP), which was inscribed to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, will greatly damage the rich biodiversity and impact the indigenous tradition of that particular area, said SUSA President Patrush Lepcha.
We are not against the development, but development at the cost of nature is unacceptable, he added.
