International Nurse`s Day Celebrated
International Nurse`s Day was celebrated with great honour and enthusiasm in a local hotel here in the state capital, today. The programme was organized with the theme of "Nursing: Leading Voice - Better goals achievement for development" prepared by International Council of Nurses.
Minister for Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare Department Govt. of Sikkim Mr. Arjun Kumar Ghatani graced the function as the chief guest which also had the presence of DG-cum-Secretary Dr. K. Bhandari, Medical Superintendent STNM Dr. KB Gurung, departmental officials, nursing staffs and others.
International Nurses Day is celebrated annually to mark the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of Modern Nursing.
At the outset, Chief Guest Mr. Ghatani along with the dignitaries paid tribute to Florence Nightingale by offering khadas on her portrait amidst divine tone of Saraswati vandana.
Addressing the nursing staff, Mr. Ghatani congratulated and extended warm greetings to all nursing staff on the auspicious occasion of International Nurse`s Day.
He applauded the significant contributions made by nurses in the hospitals. He underlined the unconditional care provided by nursing staff in health centres and articulated their service as most noble job with kind and compassion. He also assured to extend all required support from the department.

Secretary Health Dr. K. Bhandari said expressed happiness on being part of the programme and appreciated the various performances presented during celebration. He also applauded working performance of nursing fraternity and marked their contributions as unquestionable.

Mrs. Madhu Kala Mishra recipient of Florence Nightingale award for her extraordinary contribution in health services and retired nurse Tshering Doma Lepcha was felicitated for her exemplary service.
