Excise Department, The verification regarding shops along the State/National Highways will be taken up after two weeks,

A Coordination meeting was held regarding implementation of the Judgment Order of

Supreme Court (dated 15. 12. 2016 read with judgment order 31.03.2017), on ban on sale of alcohol along the National and State highways, in the chamber of District Collector (East) today.

Organized by the Excise Department, the meeting had the presence of Secretary Excise Department Smt Yashoda Bhandari, Mayor Gangtok Municipal Corporation Shri Shakti Singh Choudhary, Chairman GMC Shri Ashis Rai, District Collector East Shri Prabhakar Verma, Senior Superintendent of Police East Shri D.B.Giri, ADC East and East District Sub-Divisional Magistrates along with the officials from the Excise Department.

 

During the meeting Secretary Excise Department appraised about both the judgment orders of the  Court.

She also informed that at present in Sikkim, Excise Department is only issuing license of Foreign Liquor Retail Shops (FLRS), Foreign Liquor Bar Shops (FLBS) and Pachwai Shops which are located away from National and State Highways which fulfills the conditions.

 

The verification regarding shops along the State/National Highways will be taken up after two weeks, she added.

It was also discussed that a committee will be formed to conduct verification of the shops located along the State Highways.
