A Toto driver of Siliguri has been arrested for allegedly molesting a female student


A Toto driver of Siliguri has been arrested for allegedly molesting a female student near Salbari on Sunday evening.
Pradhan Nagar police have arrested Apu Siddhi (20) after the victim a resident of Mirik who was temporarily residing in Salbari area filed written complaint at police station. 
According to victim she boarded on the Toto from Darjeeling More and then the driver started moving without taking other passengers. When asked he informed that the battery is low and the vehicle can’t take the load. After reaching a lonely place near Salbari he stopped and dragged the girl to a ditch.
Victim somehow ran away and started making call to her elder sister informing about the incident. But the driver caught her and threatened of dire consequences if she does not allow her to make sexual relation. Victim also alleged that after denying the driver started beating her. Luckily she was saved as group of people reached the area after hearing the scream. By that time victim’s elder sister along with her friends also have reached the area.
The driver was thrashed by the furious mob and later police intervene into the matter.
Victim’s elder sister informed that she and her sister is staying in Salbari since last couple of years for the purpose of their studies. She also informed that her father is an Indian Army and currently posted in Jammu.

EPCS Namchi lift Sikkim United CupVivek Bhutia of EPCS Namchi received the Man of the Tournament trophy while Ajay Subba of ABYF Baptist Church received the High Scorer’s trophy

In the final match played on Saturday, EPCS outplayed ABYF Baptist Church, Sikkim 2-0 to lift the champion’s trophy.

The 8th edition of the Inter-Church Football Tournament was organized by the Sikkim Christian Sports Association (SCSA) on this year’s theme ‘Play for Glory’.

A total of 29 teams from four districts of Sikkim and a team from Darjeeling participated in the tournament.

The tournament, an annual event of SCSA, continues to be organized since 2012.

The final match of the tournament was witnessed by the administrative advisor to the Sikkim chief minister, MP Subba as the chief guest.

Gangtok legislator YT Lepcha was also present as the guest of honour among other dignitaries.

Both the teams maintained a good pressure on each other with an attacking game in the final match from the start.

However, players from the both teams missed some good chances to take the early lead in the match.

Finally, Kunjaman Thapa gave a breakthrough to EPCS with his goal in the 30th minute to end the first half with 1-0 lead.

The second half was again full of attacks and counter-attacks.

When players of ABYF struggled hard to come back into the match, Dewashish George Rai doubled the lead of EPCS in the 64th minute to seal 2-0 victory for his team.

ABYF boys played their hearts out but were not able to give any successful finishing.

The chief guest and guests of honour gave away trophies and cash prizes to the winners.

The winning team received a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh along with trophies while a cash prize of Rs 50,000 was given away to the runners-up team.

Omega Church, Gangtok received the Fair Play Trophy while Biman Bhujel of ABYF Baptist Church adjudged as the Man of the Match.

Man of the Tournament trophy was awarded to Vivek Bhutia of EPCS Namchi and Ajay Subba of ABYF Baptist Church received the High Scorer’s trophy for 11 goals in the tournament.

Goalkeeper of Gitang Dagbari was adjudged as the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

PROTEST AGAINST GOVT. DECISION TO ALLOT BURIAL GROUND IN NAMCHI TO BE USED AS TRUCK.


The Muslim shopkeepers of namchi kept their business establishments closed today to protest the govt's decision to allot their burial ground in namchi to be used as a truck stand.  

This graveyard, situated at 12th Mile on the Jorethang - Namchi stretch, one they have been using since pre-Merger days, had already been desecrated by the dumping of excavated mud from the road widening work there. Yesterday, the site was marked out as a truck stand, leading the community to escalate their protest to the shutting of their shops today.

Brown Sugar with a market value of more than 10 lakh has been seized by Rangpo Police under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances

Brown Sugar with a market value of more than 10 lakh has been seized by Rangpo Police under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances ( NDPS).  

On intervening night that is 22.11.19 a team of Rangpo Police Station seized 1400 pouches of suspected brown sugar worth Rs. 8 to 10 lakhs.

All three involved persons  i) Durga Subba, 38 yrs, r/o Jublee line Singtam, ii) Sonu Chaudhary, 34 yrs, r/o Singtam and iii) Dhiraj Agarwal, 31 yrs, r/o Singtam were arrested under NDPS Act.

As per the police, they have discovered the modus operandi and it was brought from Siliguri and the consignment is for places like Singtam and nearby places. Police also said their next step would be to reach out at Siliguri from where they are bringing this substances and we will do that with the help of West Bengal police.

Health Minister Stresses on Mass Awareness to Combat Drug Use.

GANGTOK, November 21: State Health department today announced a series of activities that will be conducted under State Action Plan for drug demand reduction. 
As part of the program, a children’s parliament will be organised at Manan Kendra on November 26, a football tournament between the inmates of various rehab centres from November 28 to December 3 and an awareness campaign at MG Marg on November 30. Besides, cultural programmes will also be organised.
“We have three fundamental components of this program – awareness, preventive measures and capacity building. We are going to involve human minds through creative interests like sports, music, and art. We are all running away from the problem till now, it is high time we face and embrace it”, said Health minister Dr. M.K. Sharma today.
Addressing the press conference, Dr. Sharma also stressed on sensitizing people about the menace of drugs. NGOs and social activists are working diligently but due to lack of awareness we are not getting the desired results, he added.
“The productive youth of our State are into drugs and this has become a major issue. Let’s all come together and make people aware of it,” he concluded.

Constituency Level Committee of the 26 Arithang .

 S.K.M. Constituency Level Committee of the 26 Arithang constituency conducted public meeting cum hearing at Arithang Gumpa. Minister and M.L.A. Shri Arun Upreti graced the occasion as the chief guest. Officials from different concerned Department were also present. Huge presence from different parts of the society participated in the program. They had come with different local issues affecting the constituency which have been pending for long time. Irregular and inconsistent supply of water and electricity, uncleanliness, safety and surveillance, lack of parking space and traffic congestion were top on the agenda. After a careful hearing the Minister briefed the people regarding the work that has been done till date after the formation of the Government and what is in the timeline. He assured all the issues which have been put forwarded will be delivered and it is just a matter of time as different proposal have been made regarding it for the anticipated coming budget session. He also said his door is open for all for their grievances irrespective of their party affiliation. Later people of the constituency expressed full confidence in the Minister.

Governor's Gold cup winner.


Visitor team Mohemeddan Sporting club Kolkotta won the title of 39th episode of Governor's Gold cup winner. In an interesting final match of 39th episode of Governor's Gold cup which was held today between the home team Sikkim Himalayn Sporting Club and Mohemeddan Sporting club Kolkotta wherein visitor team won by 2-1 goal in an interesting match held at Paljor Stadium. The finale was attended by CM PS Tamang as chief guest and other cabinet colleague. From winning side both the goals were scored by Vanlalbiaa Changte. While from home team Eugene Nimco scored the only goal and from From the winning side both the goals were made by Vanlal


The winning team received a cash prize 1.5 Lakhs while home team Sikkim Himalayan received 1 lakh as runners up and in addition Sikkkim team being a home team CM give away Rs 5 Lakh as for the first time any local team has reaches the final and showed the wonderful game. 

Remember, Sikkim Himalayan was playing it's maiden Gold Cup final and playing against many times winner of Governor's Gold Cup 

After the match various sports persons who are now playing ISL and other national tournaments were also felicitated by the Sikkim Football Association which has organising body of the tourney. Various former football players who has contributed for the development of football was also felicitated.  

Before the final match of the gold cup 
an interesting exhibition football match between Ministers team (CM XI )and Bureaucrats (Officer XI)  was played today at Paljor Stadium.
